Aprite bene le orecchie
Last night I was reading the notes relating to an examination which I have to give in the summer session. The professor gave us some of the material in Italian and partly in English, with which they are currently engaged in a painstaking work of translating the foreign language pages.
During the preliminary reading I gave last night, however, I read a sentence that I would like anyone who had heard at least once in his life. On the handouts, in fact, at one point it said
Mental illness is the Same as physical illenss, except for mental illness Causes psychological symptoms.
So this is what I wish more people could understand: that anorexia is a mental illness that has an effect only at a later time on the body, and anyway, even though mental illness is very real, as real is the suffering that flows from it.
is not a childish tantrum, not a lack of willpower, not a way to attract attention, not because you want to make the models or dancers, it is not because you plan to achieve an ideal of beauty or "perfection."
It 's a strong response to a condition that we have to suffer and that we can not passively accept, it is a challenge ourselves to the limit, a search for ways to feel at ease with ourselves, a plethora of as illusory as wonderful feelings that we are at a certain point, to try. Believe me. 've Been there. I'm going through.
The existence of a greater number of people who understand this certainly will not change the suffering, difficulties, and the hardness of what we face in our daily fight against anorexia, but in my opinion would make it easier to go ahead and feeling a bit 'better.
